Even though spider and varicose veins are unsightly, that’s not the only reason it’s beneficial to get them removed: They can also cause pain, aches, and swelling in the surrounding area.
Before and After Photos
How is Sclerotherapy Performed?
Dr. Naar performs sclerotherapy as a quick in-office procedure.
To start, you’ll lay down with your legs elevated. Then, Dr. Naar cleans the treatment area. Once the area is clean, he injects a solution into the unwanted vein, causing it to clot and eventually dissolve. Dr. Naar will repeat the injections into each vein getting treated.
Once the procedure is complete, Dr. Naar will massage the area or apply compression dressing to stimulate the injection site. He’ll also have you get up and walk around to encourage proper circulation.
What are the Benefits of Sclerotherapy?
The most significant benefit of sclerotherapy is the disappearance of spider or smaller varicose veins. Other benefits include:
- No anesthesia
- Quick recovery
- Fast results
- Minimally invasive
- High success rate
Are There any Side Effects with Sclerotherapy?
The possible side effects of sclerotherapy are minor, and include:
- Redness at the injection site
- Bumps at the injection site
- Bruising around the treatment area
Most side effects disappear within a few days to a week. If they last longer, or if you experience pain, be sure to contact Dr. Naar.
What is Recovery like Following sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy has a quick recovery time, so you can go home immediately after your treatment. It’s important to get up and walk around afterward, but you’ll need to avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks.
Following surgery, Dr. Naar will dress the injection site and recommend you wear compression socks for about two weeks to help prevent the formation of blood clots.
